At the beginning of the class we did some exercises of the green book. We start with listening, and we did the exercises 10 of the page 62, 4 of the page 74, 11 of the page 76 and finally 9 of the page 82.
Then, the teacher wrote on the whiteboard some topics that were missing for the test. She explained how the grammar for suggesting alternative past actions and judging past actions is.
For judging past actions we have to use should or should not.
The structure is: Subject + Modal + Have + Past Participle Verb + rest
For suggesting alternative past actions we could use the modals could – could not or would – would not.
We learned how to give recommendations and opinions with the structure:
Subject + Modal + Be + Past Participle Verb + Rest
We learned when we have to use to words must, should, could, has to be and others.
The last topic was tag questions. To ask a question like this we need a sentence in positive and other in negative. Or the first in negative and the second one in positive. She wrote some words that we can use:
Is – Is not                              Are – Are not                                   Did – Did not
Can – Cannot                      Should – Should not                     Do – Do not
After that, we did the exercises of the pages 89, 101 and 103 to understand these topics.
Then, Mackenzie went to the class and did a game. She had three pails with the words who, when and what. I was playing with Ricardo. One person had to run and take a paper of each pail and then run back to her or his partner and make a sentence with the three words. I was the runner and I didn’t want to do it because I don’t like to run in front of people. They say that I am a little “cursi” (I don’t know how to say it in English) when I run.
Ricardo and I did 6 sentences. Then we interchange our sentences with Allan and Anneth. We had to find what was wrong in the sentences. Ricardo wrote two wrong sentences in the board and the other couples did the same. Mackenzie corrected the sentences, some people didn’t add –s when the noun was in third person or they put the adverb of time before the verb. We have to practice because some of us don’t combine very well the verbs.
It was a good activity to practice for the test!
