At the beginning of the class we did the comment of the book. I went late to the class, so I was the last one. I read just a few chapters more of the book but I think that a surprise comment is better because if we have a specifically day for the comment, we start thinking "What are I going to say?" and we write the things that we want to tell. A surprise comment does not give us the chance to do this, we just have to talk about what we read or what we like or dislike about the book. I talked about how the relation of Louisa and Will was better. Louisa listen Camila talking about Will, he wanted to suicide and Louisa almost quite her job but Camila convinced her about keep the job because Will promised them 6 months to take the decision, so they had an opportunity to keep him alive.
Then, we start working in the green book. We are not going to do some units of the book because we know the topics. We learned a lot of them in the blue book, so is not necessary studying again in class, but we have to study it at home.
The units that we completed in class were:
Unit 3: Requests with modals, if clauses, and gerunds.
In this unit we learned some structures to use, the structures depend of the modal that we use. For example if we use the modals "can", "could", "do you mind if" or "it is ok if" the next verb is in present. If we use the expressions "would it be all right if" or "would you mind if" the next verb is in simple past. If we use the structure "would you mine" the verb that we have to use is a gerund, with -ing. And finally if we use "I was wondering if" we have to use the modal could and verb in present then.
After that we repass the structure of indirect requests.
Unit 4: It was about past continuous vs simple past and past perfect. Then, we learn about past perfect.
Unit 5: It was about noun phrases containing relative clauses
Unit 6: We saw the grammar focus of describing problems 1 and describing problems 2
In this unit we learned a lot of vocabulary to describe problems. For example, adjectives like dent, tear, crack, leak, scratch and stain. Then, we did a practice with verbs with -ing, like skipping, jamming, freezing, dropping, flickering, dying and crashing.
