We began the class watching a Ted Talk. I liked too much this video because I felt totally identified. The name of the video is "Inside the mind of a master procrastinator" by Tim Urban. A procrastinator is a persona who postpone the important things, instead of that do unimportant things. Tim made some draws to explain that. He said that we have a person inside of our mind, a rational decision maker. And this person is in charge of our decisiones until the Instant Gratification Monkey takes the wheel. This monkey just thinks in easy and fun things. So when we have very important things to do the monkey says "Don't do that, you have a lot of time yet".
Well, yesterday it was like that. I needed to do the journal of the previous day. So the wednesday I thought that I was going to wake up early the next day and I am going to start to do the journal at once. But I didn't anything. I woke up at 10am... I usually wake up early because I need to go to study but that day I don't have classes so I don't have any deadline to wake up at 5:30am. Instead to begin to write the journal I took 1 hour for breakfast. So, It was 11am. My mom needed help with house and I had to clean, It was 12md and of course I needed take lunch. So I ate with all the laziness possible and finally I opened my computer and I began to do the journal. I wrote like 8 words and my Instant Gratification Monkey forced me to look an anime. Well, actually no one forced me, but I wanted it... I watch just 1 chapter of 30 minutes and I was sleepy. Yes, I woke up at 10am but this wasn't enough. I feel bad for that... but I had to sleep and then I woke up at 3:20pm and I had to get dressed to go to english class. I did anything that day, but I enjoyed sleep a lot. This was the Instant Gratification Monkey behind the wheel.
Tim said that the only way remove the monkey of the wheel, is when the Panic Monster appears. And this happens when you have a deadline. When the important thing are too closer. For example, imagine that today is August 29th and I just have 5 journals of 20... maybe I spend the whole night writing the 15 journals that I need. Some of us work better when we are under pressure, but the problem is when we don't have deadlines. I mean, Tim talked about different things that you could do without deadlines, like be an entrepreneur. You don't have a deadline to start your own company and have successful. So the Panic Monster doesn't appear. You have to work hard and get the motivation by yourself. So, work under pressure is good, but have the discipline to work even when we don't have pressure or when nobody sees us is better.
After to watched the video we talked about different ways to stop to be a procrastinator.
At the end of the class we did the dramatization. We were the first, and it was very fun because Marilyn wasn't in the class so David had to do the rol of Allan's mother. He wear a dress and a wig.
The other group did a drama about a party too and the last one was about an electrical fault.
The class was very funny with these dramas.
